Justice minister highlights tougher penalties for crimes against infrastructure – June 24, 2026

Justice Minister Sean Fraser holds a press conference in London, Ont., to highlight the fact that the newly-enacted Bail and Sentencing Reform Act (Bill C-14) makes damage to critical infrastructure an aggravating factor when determining sentencing for crimes. Since 2025, London has been increasingly plagued by damage to its electrical grid from thieves stealing the copper wire within. The legislation also increases sentences for various other crimes and makes it more difficult for some accused to be granted bail. Minister Fraser is joined by Peter Fragiskatos (MP for London Centre), Arielle Kayabaga (MP for London West), Josh Morgan (mayor of London) and Ysni Semsedini (CEO of London Hydro).
