Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) setup at INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GUWAHATI
Air leaks must be prevented if VARTM is to produce composite parts of the highest calibre. Leaks in the air can cause resin to flow through the mould wrongly and can cause air bubbles to form. When the composite cures while still containing air bubbles, defects in the form of voids develop. A vacuum bag fault, inappropriate use of the sealant tape, or a poor seal where the hose connects the vacuum bag are all potential causes of air leakage.
