[E] - ESSLINGEN: School shooting alert due to person with a weapon, person on the run. Major police operation underway. ESSLINGEN: [Reutlingen (ots) - Esslingen (ES): Major police operation after suspicious sighting. A suspicious sighting at a vocational school center on Steinbeisstrasse led to a major police and emergency services operation on Monday morning. Around 10:30 a.m., the school administration triggered a school shooting alert after several students reported a man who had apparently entered the school. He had spoken to the students and asked them something they didn't understand. As the man walked toward the school building, he was reportedly carrying a firearm in his waistband. Shortly afterward, the suspect left the premises in an unknown direction and may have driven off on a motorcycle. The police immediately responded with numerous officers, including special forces and two police helicopters. The school complex was cordoned off over a wide area, searched, and after an immediate threat was ruled out, the students were taken to the adjacent sports field. Police and emergency services had set up a gathering point there where the students were cared for and could access support services if needed. A total of approximately 670 people were attended to by emergency personnel. No one was injured. According to current information, there is no indication of a concrete threat. The criminal investigation department is now searching for a man between 17 and 19 years old. He is described as being approximately 175 to 180 cm tall and slim. He had a dark complexion and a three-day beard. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and knee-length beige shorts. He was allegedly carrying a black pistol. During the immediate search, a suspect was initially arrested, but after a thorough investigation, he was found to have no connection to the incident and was released. The Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office and the Esslingen Criminal Police Directorate are now investigating the 18-year-old from Stuttgart on suspicion of violating the Weapons Act and disturbing the peace by threatening to commit crimes. Time-consuming and personnel-intensive investigations by the Criminal Police, which focused on the tip about the motorcycle among other leads, have now led to the identification of the suspect. With a court order, investigators searched the suspect's apartment on Wednesday morning. In addition to the clothing worn during the incident, officers found and confiscated a mobile phone and various computer hardware. No weapon was found.
