LEYLA HUSSEIN | THE CRUEL CUT | OFFinNY
Every 11 seconds, a girl undergoes female genital mutilation (FGM). Leyla Hussein is an anti-FGM campaigner and a survivor who shares her personal experience with the goal of protecting girls from this abusive practice. As a psychotherapist in the UK, Leyla treats women and girls who have experienced FGM. At OFF in NY, Leyla stressed how important it is to create networks of women who will be advocates to help protect their daughters and members of their communities from undergoing the traumatic procedure.
