Iran’s Wild Kebab Party 🇮🇷 People Drive From Tehran to Eat Here

Inside Iran’s tiny kebab village, 20,000 skewers hit the fire every day. This is what real Iranian street food looks like, smoky grills, crowded tables, charcoal, and nonstop kebabs just outside Tehran. In this Iran street food documentary, we travel from a small village outside Tehran to some of the busiest and most unique food spots in the city, from massive charcoal grills and smoky kebabs to old-school Tehran dishes that locals still line up for. We start at Haj Mami, one of the biggest and busiest village grills in Iran, located in Palain, a small village outside Tehran. This place serves around 2,000 orders a day and uses nearly 2,000 kg of charcoal daily to cook thousands of kebabs, grilled wings, liver, heart, kidney, and different meat skewers over long handmade charcoal grills. Most of the rush begins in the evening, when the grills get hotter, the smoke fills the air, and hundreds of people come for dinner. After 9 PM, even with so many seating areas, finding a place to sit becomes almost impossible. After that, we head into Tehran for jaghool baghool, a rich Iranian street food cooked in giant pots right on the street. Then we walk through some older and more nostalgic parts of Tehran, including Valiasr Street, formerly known as Pahlavi Avenue, and the area around Bagh Ferdows, where old shops, street life, and everyday Tehran culture come together. Next, we visit Haj Amo to try abdoogh khiar, a cold traditional Iranian summer dish made with local butter, ice, cucumber, walnuts, raisins, dried herbs, and a special mix of around 27 different herbs. It is served with crispy dried Yazdi bread and has a refreshing taste that many Iranians love during hot summer days. We also explore Tehran Weekend Market, also known as Bazar Parvaneh, where people come for vintage items, handmade pieces, old objects, local fashion, and a different side of Tehran’s street culture. Later in the video, we try traditional tripe stew made with tripe, shirdaan, and white liver, a popular old-school dish that surprised me with how many people still line up for it in Tehran. We also stop by a street fruit truck, visit a traditional sangak bakery, and finally end the journey with one of Iran’s most famous breakfasts: sheep head and trotters, also known as kalle pacheh.
