Yellowstone on Super 8 [Kodak Vision3 50D / Elmo 1012S-XL]

I spent a few days in Yellowstone National Park, and shot Super 8 film footage during the first half of my trip. I used Kodak Vision3 50D film on my Elmo 1012S-XL Super 8 camera. Check out my video on shooting medium format landscape photography on that same Yellowstone trip here:    • Film Review: Cinestill 400D with Pentax 6x...   I'm really happy with the combination of 50D and the Elmo camera, the images come out well-exposed and about as sharp as possible given the medium. The Elmo's 10x zoom lens let me get nice close-ups of the wildlife and some of the more dangerous landscape features of the park. I've been really enjoying super 8, and the dreamy low-fi retro feel of the footage somehow takes me back to those moments better than crisp digital video does. The cost of film, developing, and scanning is not low, but it's relatively reasonable given the process. I'm thinking of exploring old standard def DV cameras with 1/3" CCD chips as an alternative for times I want a low-fi feel but the cost and limitations of super 8 would be prohibitive. Film was developed by Spectra Film and Video in North Hollywood, CA. Scanning was done by Nick Coyle at The Negative: Space Motion Picture and Photo Lab.
