Cumbrian Hay’26 ‘A Step Back In Time’ Tedding On a hill farm with a lovely 64yr-old MF 35 & Haybob!

With the grass meadows mown and a good long forecast of sunny weather ahead it took very little persuasion for me to visit one of my favourite farms to film a scene that took me right back to my childhood! Working under cloudless blue skies many feet above sea level in a haymaking scene reminiscent of the past, the sort that a lovely original 64 year old MF 35 was working its way round the field with a PZ/ Zweggers Haybob, a machine those of us of a certain age can all relate to! With its familiar Perkins 3-cylinder engine note, the 1962 MF35 (one of the last 35s produced) made light work of tedding out the grass that had been mowed the previous day and with a tremendous steering lock that meant the 35 could be spun round into the next row on a sixpence the field of drying grass was soon turned over and the classic, almost vintage Massey after travelling up the farm track was parked up back in the barn! Unfortunately due to the extreme heat (32 degrees a few days later) and wary of being stood out in the open field (even though I wanted too) I missed the traditional small baling this year but did manage to catch the same MF 35 and Haybob rowing up the hay crop in what can only be described as a very fine end product!
