📚 RESEÑA 📖| Involución - Max Brooks | PENNYLINE
📚📚 REVIEW of the horror and speculative fiction novel "Devolution" by Max Brooks, famous for his success with "World War Z" 👇👇 🔴 If you want to buy the book: https://amzn.to/3NZRseG The novel speculates on the existence of Bigfoot in a journalistic style, telling the story of Greenloop, a small, isolated community in the mountains, dependent on technology and the nearest city, which is cut off after the eruption of Mount Rainier. However, the twist isn't there, but rather in the attempts to survive attacks by a Bigfoot clan by this small community of only six houses, who have zero experience or preparation beyond their tablets. The fate of Greenloop is known from the beginning, but the novel's originality lies precisely in the development of the different characters and their ability (or lack thereof) to adapt to this situation. With its direct and clear prose, the novel is narrated in the first person, either by the journalist or through the diary entries of Kate, who has the misfortune of arriving in the isolated community of Greenloop shortly before the volcanic eruption. All of this is interwoven with real-life documentation of animal attacks and Bigfoot sightings, lending a high degree of verisimilitude to the story. Although Kate Holland is the most developed character, being the narrator and providing her firsthand account, the development of the other characters is also noteworthy. They begin as stereotypes of cultured people who idealize nature but are unprepared for it, but as the story progresses, they are fleshed out, gaining depth and each reacting differently to the unfolding events. However, the novel clearly falls short in the horror genre, not so much because the action/horror scenes are poorly executed, but because of Brooks's narrative choice. The diary breaks the immediacy of the moment, and you know that Kate has necessarily survived. In any case, it's a novel I enjoyed despite its flaws, and I think it could appeal to anyone who enjoyed the author's other novels or the genre. Here's the link to Goodreads: / devolution
