With the theme "Readers Make Great Friends," the 2024 edition celebrates the power of books as transformative agents and connectors between people of different cultures and backgrounds. This edition brings a rich program with over 700 national and international authors. Among the Brazilian authors, prominent names include Mario Sérgio Cortella, Thalita Rebouças, Monja Coen, Ailton Krenak, and Aguinaldo Silva. Internationally acclaimed authors such as Jeff Kinney, creator of the famous Diary of a Wimpy Kid series; Elma Van Vliet, author of Family Treasures collections; and award-winning sci-fi writer John Scalzi, known for the Old Man's War series, will also participate. The Biennial will also be an important meeting point for the publishing market, with the 5th Professional Journey taking place on September 4 and 5, gathering publishers and professionals from various countries. Colombia, the honored country of this edition, will be present with a delegation of authors and cultural activities celebrating Colombian literature. Leading publishers such as Companhia das Letras, Planeta, and Intrínseca will be present, promoting exclusive releases and autograph sessions. The event will also feature themed spaces such as Cooking with Words, where gastronomy and literature meet, and the Ziraldo Auditorium, honoring the renowned children's author. With a diverse program that includes lectures, debates, and activities for all ages, the 2024 São Paulo Book Biennial promises to attract an even larger audience than previous editions, solidifying its position as one of the country's main cultural events.
