This rule was created by the Pension Reform of November 13, 2019. After the Reform, the average calculation is the sum of all contribution salaries since July 1994, divided by the number of contribution salaries (when above 108). Low salaries lower this average, which is the basis for the final retirement amount. But be careful! The discard applies to all purposes, not just the calculation. You can discard salaries in any retirement rule. In principle, every insured person has the right to discard contributions, provided they respect certain restrictions: They cannot discard contributions to the point of losing the requirements for the retirement rule used, such as the minimum contribution period, for example. They cannot discard contributions to the point of having fewer than 108 contributions (minimum divisor) after 07/1994. Paulo benefited greatly from discarding contributions. At 65 years of age and with 32 years of contributions, he retired under the Age-Based Retirement scheme. Respecting 15 years of contributions, 180 months of qualifying period, and 108 salaries after 07/1994, he was able to discard 17 years of salaries. By discarding 213 salaries, Paulo transformed his average of R$ 2,543.04 into a final value of R$ 3,800.67. Without discarding the salaries, the final value would be R$ 2,136.15. Discarding salaries can be advantageous, but it needs to be done very carefully, with calculations! How many salaries can you discard? Is it worth it?
