HD Hyundai Electric has set a new milestone in the technological self-reliance of the nuclear power industry by successfully localizing the production of RCP motors, a core component of nuclear power plants, for the first time in Korea. The RCP (Reactor Coolant Pump) motor is a key component that drives the core equipment responsible for circulating the plant's coolant. It must operate stably even in extreme environments, such as those involving radiation, high temperatures, and continuous 24-hour operation. Through approximately 41 months of joint development with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), HD Hyundai Electric successfully localized the production of RCP motors, which were previously entirely dependent on imports. Furthermore, the company has demonstrated stable operational performance through their application at Hanul Unit 6 and Sinwolseong Unit 1. This achievement holds great significance as it marks the development and application of a core nuclear power plant component using domestic technology.
