Many schools in Germany complain that students are no longer keeping up with the classwork. One of the biggest problems is a lack of language skills, as the new Minister of Education, Karin Prien, explained on Markus Lanz. This can be attributed not only to migration backgrounds, but also to the new way children and parents use social media. Therefore, she is calling for a language test for young children. Children with language deficits should then be required to attend language courses in order to keep up with the others in elementary school. And she doesn't think that immigrant barriers in schools to allow for mixed classes are a bad idea in principle.
