Keeping Chickens Cool in the Oklahoma Heat | Shade Cloth

In this video, we install 70% shade cloth over our chicken breeding pens and add 90% privacy shade cloth between individual breeder pens to help keep our flock comfortable during the hot Oklahoma summer. The overhead shade helps reduce heat stress, while the privacy barriers help prevent young roosters from becoming territorial and fighting through the wire. This simple poultry management upgrade improves chicken welfare, breeder flock performance, and overall hatchery efficiency. If you're raising chickens, managing breeding pens, operating a small hatchery, or building a homestead poultry setup, this project may give you ideas for keeping chickens cooler and reducing rooster aggression. As always, thank you all so much for watching, supporting, liking, commenting and subscribing to our journey. Aprile and Jeremy We used hog rings, hog ring pliers, 70% and 90% shade cloth in this video build and siimply used the hog rings to attach using the grommets on the shade cloth, the cloth to the exterior pen build of cattle panels and chicken wire. #chickens #homestead #poultry #hatchery #breedingpens #backyardchickens #roosters #shadecloth #chickenfarm #homesteading #raisingchickens #poultryfarming #farmlife #oklahomahomestead #sustainableliving
