One Minute Bunkai: Wansu (Sho) #3
The Tomari Katas are complex and maintain a wealth of fighting knowledge that has been preserved thru ages. This Wansu Kata is short but delivers a wealth of devastating offensive and defensive scenarios. Here we demonstrate the classic sequence that is repeated three times. This is a very basic interpretation yet it is very effective. There are other ideas for this bunkai not shown here. This application takes the opponent to the floor as part of the stepping back into the “Kosa dachi” which displaces your weight into the lower "barai" strike (hammer fist) to the lower region, the Kosa Dachi allows a natural transition into a foot/leg “ashi waza” action to either trip or sweep very similar to Judo’s “tai otoshi”, “harai goshi” or my favorite “uchi mata”. Is the sweep/throw necessary? Of course not, but One Minute Bunkai is designed to show a complete top to bottom finishing touch with the attacker on his chest or on his back.
