金谷ホテル歴史館（旧称：金谷侍屋敷）は、現存する日本最古のリゾートホテル「日光金谷ホテル」のルーツとなった場所です。江戸時代の武家屋敷の建築様式を今に伝える貴重な歴史遺産として、国の登録有形文化財に指定されています。 1873年（明治6年）、創業者の金谷善一郎が自宅を改造し、外国人専用の民宿「金谷カテッジイン」を開業しました。これが現在の「金谷ホテル」の始まりです。純日本風の武家屋敷であったため、当時の外国人客からは「Samurai House（侍屋敷）」と呼ばれ親しまれていました。 歴史的資料の展示：館内には、ヘレン・ケラーなど著名な外国人も宿泊した当時の様子を物語る資料や、貴重な写真が展示されています。 また、『日本奥地紀行』を書いたイザベラ・バードが逗留した宿としても知られています。 Kanaya Hotel History Museum (formerly known as Kanaya Samurai Yashiki) is the origin of Japan's oldest resort hotel, Nikko Kanaya Hotel. It has been designated as a registered tangible cultural property of the country as a valuable historical heritage that preserves the architectural style of samurai residences from the Edo period. In 1873 (Meiji 6), founder Zenichiro Kanaya remodeled his home and opened Kanaya Cottage Inn, a guesthouse exclusively for foreigners. This was the beginning of the current Kanaya Hotel. Because it was a pure Japanese-style samurai residence, it was affectionately known as ``Samurai House'' by foreign guests at the time. Historical materials on display: Inside the building, there are materials and rare photographs on display that tell the story of the time when famous foreigners such as Helen Keller stayed at the hotel. It is also known as the inn where Isabella Bird, who wrote ``Travels in the Outback of Japan,'' stayed.
