This video was a huge, huge, huge undertaking for me. The original concept involved [ordering a Chinese player, testing it, talking about the nature of analog sound, and drawing some conclusions about its use]. Things didn't go as expected, and I started digging, digging, digging, and digging. The reworked version became something formless and tedious; the material felt as if its creator had gotten lost in the process. The original version included a detailed section on the nature of an analog signal with clear analogies, basic details on the physics of recording and reading such a signal using magnetic tape, and a superficial description of the design solutions that make it all possible. And all of this is somehow intermingled with the user experience. I even almost completely recorded a talking head for this version of the text, but during the editing process, it became clear that it had turned out to be some kind of mega-boring mess with an incomprehensible structure that was incredibly difficult to deal with. I decided to abandon this video and archive it until better times. times (until I feel like doing something about it) In August, I made a TikTok about jar gadgets and, fueled by the feedback, completely rewrote the text, which I used to put together the video you watched. It's a lot of work! Using a talking head recording machine to smoke so much (and perhaps even smoke at all) is a mistake. I've never spent so long bringing the main character to a common denominator, ahaha (and even then it wasn't perfect). And at a certain point, I was already doing it because I needed to finish it (because so much had already been done), completely forgetting what it meant to enjoy the process of creation. Thankfully, I came to my senses more or less by the end. I need to somehow remember that ruin is extinguished by technology, forgetting about the essence and the vibe. Glad to free myself.
