INTERVIEWS FOR NUST VICE-CHANCELLOR POSITION – 28 April 2026

Two senior academics, Frednard Gideon and Anicia Peters, are vying for the position of Vice-Chancellor at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Prof. Anicia Peters is a leading expert in human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. She currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) and as co-chair of the African Scientific, Research, and Innovation Council (ASRIC) Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Working Group. Prof. Peters has extensive experience across academia, industry, and government; her previous senior leadership roles include serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Namibia (UNAM) and as Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics at NUST, where she provided strategic academic and institutional leadership. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s degree in human-computer interaction from Iowa State University, as well as a Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Computing) cum laude and a National Diploma in Business Computing—both cum laude—from the Polytechnic of Namibia. Prof. Frednard Gideon is a leading expert in mathematics and currently serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor: Academic Affairs at UNAM. In this role, he provides strategic oversight of academic programmes, research, and quality assurance across the institution. Prof. Gideon has held several senior academic positions, including Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at UNAM, where he contributed extensively to teaching, research, and institutional development. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in applied mathematics from North-West University; a Master of Business Administration in strategic management from North-West University; a Master of Science in mathematics from Rhodes University; a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in applied mathematics from Rhodes University; and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics from UNAM.
