Inside the 2019 Green Race #5, Carnage & Sweet lines on Race Day
It's hard to explain the energy that courses through this event. The racers are jacked up on coffee and adrenaline. The crowd has miles of hiking in brisk temps and a near-vertical descent into the gorge ahead of them. Everyone is nervous, excited, and committed. Green Race day started off cold, and a little scary with freezing morning temps and unknown water levels, as the sun hit the parking lot the feared super high water was not a reality and the temps headed for 60 degrees and bluebird skies in the Green River Gorge. Over a hundred racers pulled themselves through the screaming, bell-ringing crowd and almost all had to use plans, B, C, and even D to complete the course but, for the most part, everyone was ok and dealt with whatever the river delivered. Follow along as Shane escorts you through the sights and sounds of the Greatest Show in Sports, the 24th annual Green Race. Like every year whitewater legend Shane Benedict is covering the Annual Green Race for us at Kayak Session mag. Here is the final edit. A Huge thanks to him and to you all people of the Green Race (racers, volunteers, organizers!!!)
