Hanmer Springs Resort Town New Zealand 2024

Hi and welcome todays video as I go out exploring on my bike around the streets of the thermal resort township of Hanmer Springs, starting from Woodbank road on the southern outskirts of Hanmer Springs then heading along the off road Basin Trail on the western edge of the township to Mount Captain Lane then into the CBD area of Hanmer Springs via Jacks Pass Road and Chisholm Crescent then exploring the southern area of Hanmer Springs waling / cycling trail and the Crawford Walkway before finishing at Bath Street. Hanmer Springs Resort Town is well known for its hot springs thermal pools that were discovered by a local run holder called William Jones in 1859, Bathing facilities were opened in 1883. A sanatorium was established in 1897 during the First World War it was replaced by a convalescent hospital that became the Queen Mary Hospital that was in operation from 1916 to November 2003 the former Queens Hospital building is still standing today and the hospital grounds are open to the public. Hanmer Springs is located in the Hanmer Basin in the Hurunui District in North Canterbury on New Zealand's South Island. Filmed: 25th February 2024 Camera: GoPro Hero 11
