Transit Compass Repair
This video shows you how to perform some very basic repairs/maintenance on a pocket transit compass traditionally used in field geology. This is an older model K & E transit compass and is similar to some models of Brunton transit compasses where the glass can easily be removed once you are able to remove the metal snap ring. (Clarification- video estimated that the compass in this demo may date back to the 1950s, but upon further communication with owner, it is more likely from the 1970s.) *Warning* Removing the snap ring holding in the glass is the most challenging tasks of servicing a transit compass and extreme caution should be taken to avoid damaging or breaking the glass and internal components. That being said, if you have a newer model transit compass, be aware that any attempts to service the compass on your own may void any existing warranty.
