Motorcycle Trip in Georgia | Wine Roads, Kvareli & Crossing to Russia

Leaving camp, I head toward Kvareli, deep in Georgia’s famous wine region at the foot of the Caucasus. After a quick breakfast on the road, I stop at the surreal Peace Monument—a striking Soviet-era sculpture overlooking the valley. The ride continues through the vineyards of Kakheti to Sighnaghi, known as the “City of Love,” where I end the day with a sunset and a traditional Georgian dish: shkmeruli, a rich garlic chicken specialty. The next morning, I explore one of the most unique wine locations in the country—the Kvareli Wine Cave. Originally built during the Cold War, this massive tunnel carved into the Caucasus mountains now stores thousands of bottles at a perfect natural temperature. After a roadside lunch of local dishes like lobio and mchadi, a chance encounter leads to an unexpected opportunity: a private winery tour and wine tasting. In this region, wine is still made using ancient techniques with buried clay jars called qvevri, creating Georgia’s famous amber wines. Before leaving the region, I ride up to Nekresi Monastery, overlooking the entire Alazani Valley—a peaceful and historic viewpoint to end this chapter. The journey then takes a new turn as I head north toward the Russian border. After a long and slow crossing, I meet another rider, and together we decide to continue the adventure across Russia. 📍 Follow my trip: 📸 Instagram –   / manman_bzh   #motorcycle #camping #travel #roadtrip #backpacking
