In this episode of Get Your Eat On, I’m making crispy hot water cornbread using self-rising cornmeal, salt, and boiling water. For this recipe, I used: Ingredients: 1 cup self-rising Washington cornmeal 1/2 teaspoon salt Up to 3 cups boiling water, added as needed Neutral oil for frying (I used Avocado Oil in this recipe) Important tips: Boil more water than you think you need. Add the salt to the dry cornmeal before adding the hot water. Add the boiling water slowly until the mixture comes together. Do not use olive oil for frying. Use a neutral oil that can handle frying heat. This is a simple, crispy, old-school hot water cornbread recipe that goes perfectly with collard greens, black-eyed peas, fried fish, turkey wings, beans, or a good Sunday dinner plate.
