Texas Largest Dam sinking? How fast?

In December twenty twenty-five, some researchers looking at data from European satellites spotted something weird in East Texas. One of the biggest dams in the state looked like it was moving. Basically, it was sinking. Just a few millimeters a year, which doesn’t sound like a big deal at first. But when you’re talking about a two-and-a-half-mile-long dam that supplies water to millions of people, even small movements like that can be pretty scary. This is Lake Livingston Dam. It’s a huge structure holding back one of the largest reservoirs in Texas and it’s a really important water source for the Houston area. What made it even more worrying is that different parts of the dam seemed to be sinking at different speeds. If something this massive ever broke, it could be a total disaster for all the towns downstream. So what were the satellites actually seeing? Why is Texas’s biggest dam sinking?
