It Wasn’t the Trailer… It Was Trust

In this video, we continue working through trailer loading—this time with a horse whose owner is being proactive, wanting to ensure the horse will load reliably, especially in an emergency situation. While the trailer might seem like the issue, the real problem is the horse’s lack of trust and understanding. Mr. Cappel works through the process by focusing on forward motion, pressure and release, and most importantly, giving the horse time to think. Instead of forcing the horse through resistance, he allows the horse to find comfort in the very place it once felt unsure—resting at the point of hesitation to help change the horse’s perception. The goal isn’t just to get the horse into the trailer, but to help the horse realize that loading is the best and most comfortable option. When the thought changes, the behavior follows.
