Alternate Nostril Breathing | 8 Minutes | Nadi Shodhana for Balance & Calm
Alternate nostril breathing — known in yoga as Nadi Shodhana — is one of the most effective breathwork practices for restoring balance between the two hemispheres of the brain. By channeling airflow through each nostril in turn, this technique activates both the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the nervous system in equal measure, leaving you in a state of calm, focused equilibrium. Research suggests it can reduce anxiety, lower heart rate, and improve respiratory efficiency within just a few minutes of practice. This 8-minute session uses a 5-5-1 pattern: five counts to inhale, five counts to exhale through the same nostril, then one count to switch sides. You'll close your right nostril with your right index finger, breathe in and out through your left, then switch — closing your left nostril with your left index finger — and breathe in and out through your right. The animation guides your pace so you can keep your attention on the breath and the hand position rather than on counting.
