HUGE canvas! Acrylic pour, combined techniques ribbon and Dutch pour, fluid art demo.
My largest individual canvas to date, measuring 100 x 120 cms. Working my way up to some 150 x 100 cms canvases that I accidentally ordered! But it’s good to push yourself! All paints were mixed the day before so they had time to settle to reduce bubbles. I was also using up some left over paint too. No silicone was added but there may have already been some in left over paints. Various paint brands were used and these are shown in the video. Mainly Meeden (lovely smooth consistency). Pebeo (nice transparent colours as well as opaques). I also mixed one cup of Glittertix which dispersed well, so there’s a very subtle sparkle which is only noticeable up close. I was aiming to do a dirty cup ribbon pour with areas that are blown out to get some soft blending. It also means I’d get areas of more reactions and cells due to paint mixing more and soften up the design to breakdown some of the bold lines. My aim was to achieve a design which works from a distance but has intrigue at close quarters. The canvas was primed the day before, misted from the back and supported with polystyrene. Once the paint has started to dry well and I feel it won’t move, then I’ll remove the sheets carefully to aid the last of the drying. This one will take perhaps a week to dry. (That’s why I did it just before Xmas!) The medium is approximately 50/50 floetrol and PVA plus a dose of Liquitex pouring medium and water added until it’s the right consistency. I don’t use exact measurements, just judge the feel of the paint and medium. Generally the paint mix is one third paint to two thirds medium, but this depends on the brand of paint and it’s starting consistency. Water is added until it’s creamy smooth and the drip is bouncy. The trays are giant garden trays found via Amazon. Garland is one brand that make them. Regular hairdryer set to high speed. The hose is useful as much longer that a straw for large canvases.
