Fatma Karume | Stopping Tanzania’s “Bulldozer” President

Fatma Karume is a prominent Tanzanian lawyer and advocate for the rule of law who used the courts and Twitter to challenge the authoritarianism of the late President John Magufuli and to defend democracy. In 2019, she co-founded the Center for Strategic Litigation to challenge the regime’s repressive and unconstitutional laws. She also used Twitter to educate the public about their rights, raise awareness about human rights violations, and raise funds for political prisoners.
