Amtrak's Obscure Mixed Train: The Lake Country Limited

Amtrak is obviously well known for their passenger service across 47 American states and three Canadian provinces, but at one point, the railroad once considered a much larger role transporting mail and express freight. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Amtrak looked to invest and develop an increased presence in the freight railroading industry. Unfortunately, this wasn't very popular with freight railroads who saw this as new competition, nor was it very successful to begin with. The Lake Country Limited was one of Amtrak's experiments and or guinea pigs for a serious freight-dependent route, taking place between Chicago, Illinois and Janesville, Wisconsin. In retrospect though, it remains a relatively obscure and unknown Amtrak route, in this video, I'll explain what happened to this service and why it didn't last too long.
