Amtrak's Other Cardinal: The Kentucky Cardinal

You've likely heard of, or even ridden, Amtrak's Cardinal train that runs between Chicago, Illinois and New York City. However, there was another Cardinal train you might not know of. This was the Kentucky Cardinal running between Chicago, Illinois through Indianapolis, Indiana, and terminating at Louisville, Kentucky. Part of Amtrak's Network Growth Strategy envisioning a more prominent role in hauling mail and express freight, this was another mixed train focusing on the mail and freight more-so than the passengers. Amtrak hoped to capitalize on a deal with the United Parcel Service (UPS) but not everything exactly went to plan with this route.
