2019 Porsche 911 Carrera Review: Is the BASE (991.2) Carrera A Purists’ Sports Car?

This week I got to spend some time in one of my favorite cars, the Porsche 911! This happened to be a 991.2 generation Carrera, and while it has now been replaced by the 992 gen, it still brings a whole lot to the table... this thing is properly sick. I particularly love the slightly over-steering nature and aggressively rear biased weight distribution. Since Porsche notoriously nickel & dimes their customers, it sometimes can feel frustrating to spec one of these up and see just how much $$$ in options you can tack on to the base price. Well it was refreshing for me to spend time with not only a base 911, but one that lacked options, like the Sports Exhaust, Sport Seats Plus, and Sports Chrono Pack, all of which in theory I would want... because it proved that while they are nice additions, the basic formula is far from "unfinished." I'll always take more speed, more aggressive seats, and a louder exhaust note, but at just over $100k new, and now around $80k on the used market, the 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera offers about as compelling of a sports car experience for the money as I can think of!!
