Based on the entry level Carrera, the car was designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts by giving higher performance through lighter weight, rather than more power. In essence, a half-way house to a GT3 at a much more affordable price point. Things did not go well though, with many sitting in dealerships unsold as soon as they were delivered.
