Interviewing Tauqir Sharif aka Tox
Deep inside Sednaya Prison, once the darkest corner of Syria’s war, I sat down with Tauqir Sharif “Tox” the British aid worker who has been in Syria since 2012. Surrounded by crumbling walls and the echo of what this place once was, we spoke about the new government, the fragile peace taking shape, and the struggles still facing the people he has served for more than a decade. His words carried the weariness of experience and the defiance of faith, a voice shaped by years of living through bombardment, rebuilding, and loss.
