Man accused of links to Al Qaeda in Syria wants UK passport back
A number of Britons who travelled to Syria - and who then had their citizenship revoked - have been left in limbo after the fall of the Assad regime. One of those is Tauqir Sharif, an aid worker from Essex who runs a network of charities in Idlib, and is now urging the UK government to give him his citizenship back. Eight years ago, he was accused by the Home Office of being associated with a group aligned with Al Qaeda, which he denies. That group then became known as HTS, who are now governing Syria.
