He has worked on major websites, recommendation engines, procurement and logistics systems, public information tools, and satellite software. He is currently a Knight-Mozilla OpenNews fellow at the newspaper La Nación. His mission is to work with news by writing open-source code in collaboration with other developers to solve problems and help journalists optimize the tools for disseminating information. He developed Tabula, a tool for releasing information embedded in PDF files, a project that has generated interest among the journalism community and those working with transparency and public data visibility. Manuel Aristarán is a programmer and musician. In 2010, he developed GastoPublicoBahiense.org, a tool for exploring and visualizing procurement information published by the municipality of Bahía Blanca, his hometown. He worked on the CUBEBUG-1 project—Argentina's first nanosatellite, successfully launched in 2013—where he developed simulations and the mission's ground control software. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
