For the first time since his dramatic arrest, Dr. Kizza Besigye has publicly laid out his version of what happened in Kenya—and the story is raising even more questions. In an emotional appearance before the High Court, Besigye described the events leading to his arrest in Nairobi, his transfer to Uganda, his prolonged detention, and why he believes his constitutional right to a fair trial has been repeatedly violated. He also revealed that he nearly lost his life during a hunger strike while in prison and explained why he refuses to proceed with his bail application without the lawyers he personally chose to represent him.
