Shackleton's Hut, Cape Royds, Antarctica
Shackleton's Hut at Cape Royds was built and occupied by the members of the Nimrod Expedition in 1908. During that year they were the first to: (1) climb to the summit of Mt Erebus, (2) explore the Dry Valleys, (3) locate the South Magnetic Pole. Shckleton and 3 others succeeded in exploring to within 180 km of the South Pol, 600 km closer than Scott had achieved in 1902.
