GRAN PARADISO (4061M) - MY FIRST 4000m MOUNTAIN! - Leo's Mountain Adventures
I've been hiking in the mountains since I can remember. Since I was a child, I always loved to spend time in the wilderness, whether on the shore of a lake, at the feet of a mountain or in some green meadow watching wild animals. In the last few years though I found myself more and more "attracted" by those huge peaks that I was seeing when travelling around the western part of the European Alps; from the Mont Blanc to the Monte Rosa, from the Gran Paradiso to the Matterhorn, the area is surely not lacking big peaks to climb. After giving it a lot of thought - I finally decided to climb my first 4000m mountain - and I opted for the majestic Gran Paradiso! Admittedly one of the easiest mountains above 4000m to "conquer", there's still a glacier to cross and an elevation gain of 1300m to face from the hut to the top, so "easy" is definitely a relative word in the world of alpinism! I opted for the more classic trail to the top, the one that goes through the Vittorio Emanuele hut, where I spent the night, and from there it goes all the way up to 4061m. I hiked the first part of the path (elevation gain: 730m) from the parking lot to the hut in the evening - and in a couple of hours I reached the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele at 2735m, where I had dinner and the chance to rest for the night. The morning after - at 3:30AM (not sure if I can call that "morning") - we started the hike after a nice breakfast and in a matter of 9 hours we were back at the Rifugio.. But well, I don't want to spoil anything more, so I'll let you watch the video to see the whole adventure! I apologize if I haven't talked much during the ascent of the second day, but we were on a very tight schedule as the weather was getting bad and we knew we had to be back at the hut as soon as possible. I really hadn't the time to talk and do vlogs, I hope you'll understand! As always, subtitles are available both in italian and english language. Please, feel free to ask any question - I'll do my best to answer to all of them! Wanna join a photography workshop in Italy?
