GCSE History: American West: Indian Wars 1862-1868

This online lesson looks at the three main conflicts between the U.S. Government and the Indians of the 1860s: Little Crow's War (1862), the Sand Creek Massacre (1864) and Red Cloud's War (including Fetterman's Trap, 1866-68). The lesson can be used as revision, or with independent reading and research as a full lesson in its own right. It concludes by analysing the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty. The lesson is intended to last around an hour to 90 minutes, depending on the depth of reading and note-taking. This lesson is designed to compliment the Edexcel GCSE History specification The American West c.1836 to c.1895. It should also be useful to anyone studying the history of the American West.
