A Mercedes S-Class W222 was brought in for diagnostics and repairs. The owner of the car brought it in for repairs. This morning, immediately after starting the car, the check engine light came on on the dashboard. The engine also ran intermittently, vibrated throughout the body, had poor acceleration, and experienced a loss of power while driving. After the engine warmed up, it began to run much more smoothly, but power still remained. Diagnostics using a professional multi-brand automotive scanner, Launch x431 pro 3S, or similar (Ediag, Kingbolen, Diagzon, Mucar, Launch) revealed an error in the engine control unit (ECU). On Mercedes, this unit is called ME. The error code was P0392: the second-bank exhaust camshaft position sensor has a short to ground. How can I figure out which sensor is which on a Mercedes V8 engine? How can I check the camshaft sensor, or more specifically, the wiring and connector, and what should be on which pin? After a brief diagnostic, the fault was determined to be with the sensor and not elsewhere. After replacing the sensor, the error was successfully cleared, the engine ran smoothly, and power returned to normal. The car operated normally.
