A little backstory: they couldn't initially start the car, so they called me. Upon arrival, it turned out the ignition switch wouldn't accept or lock the key. I had a second key with the same issue. Diagnostics using the Launch x431 pro 3S scanner and similar tools (Launch, Ediag, Kingbolen, Diagzon, Mucar, Autel) revealed an error in the CAS (Car Access Control) unit, number A0B8 - the key locking Hall sensor. When the key was pressed in a certain way, the lock would activate, the ignition would turn on, and the car would start. I showed the owner how to start the car and brought it to me. Once in the garage, I removed the ignition switch, disassembled it, and found the required Hall sensor on the circuit board, which visually appeared to be OK. Since a similar SMD Hall sensor is not available in the city and would take a long time to order, I decided to find a similar slot through an ad. The slot was found nearby at a low price. After it was delivered to me and I installed it, the problem went away, and the car started working normally. The errors were cleared. How to remove and disassemble the ignition switch on a BMW
