Christopher Palmer writes about the composers who changed film scoring from the European idiom of Steiner, Korngold, Tiomkin and Young. Such scores as East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and the Big Country are game changers in terms of reflecting the rawness of what we seen on the screen.
