Why Ever After’s Costumes Feel Real (And Most Period Films Don’t)

Ever After costume design surprised me, because this was my first time watching the film. I didn’t go in expecting much. And then the clothes kept pulling my attention. They’re simple. Worn. Thoughtful. They feel like real garments being lived in, not costumes trying to impress. In this video, I talk through what stood out to me on a first watch. How Jenny Beavan uses Renaissance references, fabric choices, and restraint to do the storytelling quietly. How class, labour, and character show up without being explained.
