Bubsy raced toward the carnival with excitement. The energy of this mysterious festival could be felt. Roller coasters twisted through the horizon like flaming dragons, carnival lights flickered, floating platforms that felt uneven, and every corner felt with equal parts of wonder and danger. With adrenaline in his veins, Bubsy strapped his signature goggles and hopped into the roller coaster, charging up to the very top of the apex. But the enjoyment would be challenged by the Woolies who proved why this Fair is Foul.” Bubsy is one of my favorite retro games from the SNES and Sega Genesis. I still remember the first time I played it. That first stage was so lively and the “Hill Stream Blues” theme was as Bubsy as it gets. It wasn’t until many years later when I finally passed to the second stage. It felt like a whole new game because I could never get past the first. There’s just something special about “Fair Is Foul”. Fair is Foul perfectly captures the colorful, larger-than-life atmosphere of Bubsy's carnival adventure. Playful melodies and an energetic rhythm bring to life a fairground filled with towering roller coasters, flashing lights, and excitement under an orange-glowing sky. At the same time, there was a mischievous sense of unpredictability in the music that mirrors Bubsy himself— lighthearted, energetic, and just a little reckless-- always one leap away from trouble. This is my 80s rock and melodic rock cover of "Fair is Foul" from Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, one of the most memorable platformers of the 16-bit era. Inspired by the spirit of classic SNES and Genesis gaming, I brought back to life this underrated video game soundtrack with powerful guitars, melodic leads, and the spirit of the golden age of 80s rock that is a huge influence in my sound. I chose to create this cover not only because of my love for Bubsy and the countless memories I have of exploring these colorful worlds, but also to celebrate the release of Bubsy 4D. After all these years, it's great to see the bobcat still charging into new adventures, reminding us that some characters—and the memories they create—never truly fade away.
