My Completely Blind Airport Travel Adventure to Disney! Part one
This is part one of a two-part travel vlog series. In this video I am traveling in Uber from my apartment in Washington state, going to Portland international airport, flying to my layover in Phoenix Arizona. Final destination is John Wayne airport and then to the Hilton Hotel in Anaheim California where I will be meeting up with my family to go to Disneyland. In this video you’ll see everything I have to go through traveling independently completely blind with just my white cane. I have traveled alone before, but this is the first adventure to travel from my apartment on Uber to an airport, going from point A all the way to point Z haha, taking Uber to my hotel in a different state. As you will see throughout the part one and part two video series, God placed amazing angels in my path to help me to get where I needed to go. I am so grateful for amazing assistance who were there to give me a helping hand, or more like a helping eye LOL. These challenges are very scary, but they energize me, motivate me, and excite me! I always look at my challenges as a fun game I’m going to win! Even if things don’t go perfectly, that’s just a part of the journey, a part of the learning experience, and makes me stronger. Can’t wait to hear your feedback and what you may have learned from my journey. I always love educating, bringing awareness, and shedding light on blindness. I am living proof that even though I am blind, it’s never going to stop me from experiencing all life has to offer! I love my life so very much! For those of you who may not know, I am 100% completely blind and have no light perception. Even my eyes are prosthetic. I have been partially blind since the age of three, completely blind for over 13 1/2 years. Over these past 13 1/2 years of living completely blind, I have gained so much vision in so many other ways. Not only spiritual vision, but I have gained the ability to see through my other senses, through my mind, but more importantly, God has taught me how to see more beautifully through the eyes of my heart. I’ve learned that even though I may not see with my eyes, it doesn’t have to keep me from living a very full, independent, confident, exciting, beautiful, and joyful life! Every day for me is a challenge, but through those challenges I have found my strength for the next one. Adventures like this can be daunting and scary, overwhelming and nerve-racking LOL, but do you know what? I love them so much!!! My challenges give me an opportunity to prove to myself what I’m capable of achieving, and help open the eyes of the world to see blindness in a different light. Blindness or disability does not have to disable us, but empower us to do greater things! My eyes may be broken, but the spirit of Joy is incredibly strong, resilient, and determined to never give up! PS: I am filming this adventure with my iPhone 11 attached to a chest strap I am wearing. I film, direct, produce, and edit all of my footage through my voiceover accessibility software on my iPhone completely blind. I may make everything look so easy and flawless, but let me tell you it is extremely challenging to keep it all together, to be upbeat and positive in the midst of my anxiety, to make sure my technology is functioning correctly LOL, and then having to navigate and educate along the way Haha. But you know what? This is my love, my passion, and through all of my challenges, my number one hope is that it’s making a difference for somebody else. I am willing to put myself through these challenges, facing my fears, just so I can make someone else feel empowered to do the same! We are here on this earth to encourage one another, to inspire, and to spread joy everywhere we go!
