FIRST SILAGE HARVEST OF YEAR 2 ON THE $20,000,000 MEGA BEEF FARM! | Reading, MN | FS25 #30

Today on the Reading, Minnesota 4X MEGA Beef Farm, we officially kick off the first silage harvest of Year 2 on our $20,000,000 MEGA Beef Farm! After wrapping up our massive Year 2 Spring planting season in the previous episode, it’s finally time to switch our focus back toward feed production as we work to keep up with the demands of our rapidly growing herd of over 2,000 beef cattle. To prepare for this year’s Alfalfa harvest, we recently made some major upgrades to our harvesting equipment lineup by trading in our old mower and windrower setup for two brand new Challenger SP165 self-propelled swathers equipped with AGCO 5200 draper headers. These new swathers allow us to mow and windrow our Alfalfa all in a single pass which is going to save us a massive amount of time throughout Year 2. At the start of today’s episode, we jump back into our first 55 acre Alfalfa field where both Challenger swathers continue mowing and preparing the field for harvest. While the swathers finish up, we also spend time back at the MEGA Beef Farm cleaning up and redesigning several AutoDrive routes around our silage bunkers to help improve unloading efficiency for this year’s silage operation. Once the bunker setup is complete, we begin firing up our entire silage harvesting fleet including two John Deere 9700 forage harvesters equipped with John Deere 659 pickup headers along with six tractors hauling Meyer Silage Boss silage trailers. As soon as the first field is fully swathed, we officially kick off the first silage harvest of Year 2 as both forage harvesters begin picking up the Alfalfa windrows while our fleet of hauling tractors continuously transports chopped Alfalfa back to the MEGA Beef Farm. Throughout the episode, we continue improving and troubleshooting our AutoDrive setup while also managing the silage pile inside of the bunker using our John Deere 8400R equipped with a silage blade so we can maximize the amount of Alfalfa we’re able to fit inside the bunker. Meanwhile, our two Challenger swathers are already moved over to the second Alfalfa field where they begin mowing another 66 acres while the silage crew continues working through the first field. By the end of today’s episode, we’ve already managed to harvest roughly three quarters of the first 55 acre Alfalfa field and haul a massive amount of chopped Alfalfa back to the farm as we continue building up our silage stockpile for our growing beef cattle operation. Next episode, we’ll finish wrapping up this first field before moving our entire silage harvesting fleet down the road to begin harvesting the second Alfalfa field! Thanks for watching!!
