Entering a 48 hour GameJam on the Homebrew CPU!
A Gamejam is a creative challenge to make a functional game in fixed period of time. My employer (https://www.climaxstudios.com/) runs a small Jam with staff and teams from a few Universities we have good relations with. Difficult at the best of times I recruited an artist friend and set about entering the GameJam on my homemade system. Pixel art and hand coded assembler all the way! This video is edited as a log of the development process from beginning to end. I’ve included chunks of the GameJam’s twitch stream to set the stage and try to capture the feel of entering. Every few hours of development I give a demonstration of the progress and walk you through the code changes. The GameJam sponsors the charity “Mind”, a charity whose mission I respect. Here is the link to the fund raising page if anyone wants to contribute. https://www.justgiving.com/page/clima... The full videos from the main gameJam stream can be found here: • Climax Studios Game Jam 2025 I included the full video segment of the interviews I took part in. I found watching these a bit cringe inducing, I definitely feel more comfortable in video rather than live streams. I bookmark this video with two things, A countdown clock (which I spent far too much time coding on the system, I may do a small extras channel video on this). And some time-lapse footage that was taken out the window of Climax’s Portsmouth office which overlooks the harbour. 0:00 Introduction 2:16 Starting Point 4:29 Start: Theme Announcement 5:37 Design Idea 8:25 Update: 45 Hours Remaining 10:48 Day 2 Introduction. 35 Hours Remaining 11:22 Twitch Interview One. 31 Hours remaining 20:41 Update: 24.5 Hours Remaining 25:51 Mid-Jam Demo 28:13 Update: 21 Hours Remaining 31:27 Final Day Introduction. 10 Hours Remaining 32:15 Twitch Interview Two 40:11 Update: 5 Hours Remaining 42:41 Ackchyually it’s 4 hours remaining! 43:52 Times Up! 0 Hours Remaining 44:12 Final Game Demonstration 50:00 Judge Comments 51:47 Winner announcement 43:34 Finishing thoughts 55:18 Our showcase entry
