We Saved Our Best Wood For This Project

We’re transforming rough Black Walnut logs into a custom timber frame marquee, and the project is finally starting to take shape. In this episode, we continue shaping the massive walnut posts, dealing with checking and cracks, milling roof components, and turning a crooked log into usable lumber for the framework. Black Walnut is one of the most beautiful woods we’ve ever worked with, and as the sanding begins, the grain and character really start to come alive. This marquee will combine timber frame construction with live-edge elements to create something that should last for many years to come. Along the way, we tackle a few unexpected challenges, spend some time around the homestead, check in on Jennifer's garden, and make progress toward bringing this vision to life.
