The Worst Place To Fix A John Deere Dozer
Be sure to check out @Helmsburgsawmill. Up in the flooded woods for Helmsburg Sawmill, the track adjuster on their John Deere 650G wouldn't tighten up. The bearing had gone out of the idler, slid back, and wore into the yoke until it wouldn't hold grease and couldn't keep track tension. We loaded a new idler and new yoke in the service truck and went to find out what else was wrong. Once we busted the track apart, we found a roller out of it too, plus a hydraulic leak from a set of old auxiliary lines left on the machine. With the rock guards seized up from sitting underwater, pulling them in the field would have turned into a two day job, so we made the call to shim the new idler and yoke in, cap off the leaking auxiliary lines, and let them run it a few days to finish the job before bringing it to the shop. Old Smokey the wheel loader came out of retirement to help. We keep idlers, yokes, wear plates, shims, rollers, and the rest of the 650G undercarriage in stock, including the counterweighted sprockets a logger with a rear winch needs.
