Shelburne Moriah Hike via Shelburne, Kenduskeag & Rattle River Trails in the White Mountains NH

Shelburne-Moriah Mountain (3,735') is a rugged and scenic White Mountains hike in New Hampshire that we tackled by climbing up the Shelburne Trail, continuing across the summit on the Kenduskeag Trail, and descending via the Rattle River Trail. This route gives you a little bit of everything: a forested approach, a steady climb, a scenic ridge traverse, and broad summit views as you move across one of the NH 52 With A View peaks. The climb up the Shelburne side builds gradually before getting steeper near the intersection with the Kenduskeag Trail, where the trail starts to feel more rugged. Once you reach the ridge and step onto the Kenduskeag Trail, the hike becomes especially rewarding, with ledges, bog bridges, alpine stretches, and excellent views across the Carter-Moriah range and beyond to Mount Washington and the Presidentials. From the summit area, the views keep coming as the trail rolls over open ledges as it descends to the intersection with the Rattle River Trail, which brings a different feel to the descent with river crossings, rocky sections, and a long downhill finish. Shelburne-Moriah is one of those hikes that feels a little wild and a little hidden, but the payoff is so worth it!
