Thoughtful Summer Sewing | Sew Skin Summer ☀️

Hello everyone 😊 Today’s video is a little different from my recent wardrobe reset series, because I’m taking part in the lovely Sew Skin Summer challenge hosted by Lucy from The Sewing Gardener over on Instagram ☀️ The challenge is all about sewing garments and accessories that help provide a little extra protection from the sun during the warmer months — whilst still being comfortable, wearable and very much your own style. As I’ve got older, I’ve definitely become much more aware of protecting my skin during summer, particularly my shoulders, chest and décolletage area, which tend to catch the sun very easily. But at the same time, I still want to feel cool and comfortable in hot weather — especially when it comes to handmade clothing. In this video I chat about: ✨ garments I already love wearing in summer ✨ styles that naturally offer a little more coverage ✨ fabrics I find most comfortable in hot weather ✨ and some ideas and plans for an oversized summer shirt that I’d love to make for the challenge One of the dresses I mention is my much-loved Tilly and the Buttons Lotta Dress, which I especially enjoy making in lightweight woven viscose fabrics. I love that it gives coverage across the shoulders and chest while still feeling floaty and breathable to wear in summer ☀️ I also chat about two shirt patterns that I think would work beautifully as lightweight layering pieces: • the Closet Core Kalle Shirt • and the new Tilly and the Buttons Frida Shirt, which I think could make the perfect oversized summer shirt to throw on over strappy dresses and tops.
